Precussion Program

 

The program for percussion is designed to develop students with strong fundamental skills and a refined understanding of musicianship, teaching students to apply these skills to any musical setting: orchestral, solo, chamber, commercial, or nontraditional.

Students will achieve a high degree of competence and learn appropriate stylistic approaches to the literature of various historical periods and composers.  Weekly private lessons are taught. Each student's plan for lessons is worked out at the beginning of the 10 week session. Depending on the individual student's interest and needs, they may receive more or fewer lessons with a given teacher that session.

Percussion Skills and Concepts, is for beginners and intermediate level students, and first-session level students. Level I will focus on physical movement that allows the students the freedom to continually absorb new techniques required for the growing number of percussion instruments. Emphasis on how technique affects tone production will be made, and speed and control will begin to be observed. 

Orchestral Repertoire, is for Level II session students who are experienced to advanced skill set and the focus of this level is for the orchestral and melodic mallet percussive instruments.

Music notation, Music theory, and Composition.  Level III & Level IV Students are focused in traditional tonal or popular styles of composing and will also have applied piano courses, technology in music classes, conducting classes, intro to composition classes, as well as the end of the session recital to preform.
